ASX ETF

ASX ETFs are Exchange traded funds available on ASX (Australian Securities Exchange). There are currently more than 40 ASX ETFs available.There are  2 types of ASX ETFs available- Australian ETFs and International ETFs.

Australian ASX ETFs were first introduced in 2001 and they now cover wide range of Australian focused benchmark indices like ASX 200 (S&P) or Russell High Dividend Yield Fund.

ASX ETFs

In 2010 the conventional ASX ETFs were expanded to include the range of Austrailan sector ETFs. Currently there are 5 companies that issue ASX ETFs- Australian Index Investments, Russell Investments, Vanguard Investments, iShares and State Street Global Investments.

Synthetic ETFs ( ETFs that do not have the exact make up of the index, but instead synthetic ETFs try to follow the benchmark index through other financial instruments, hence the name synthetic ETFs) are also available on ASX via BetaShares.

International ETFs on ASX were launched in 2007. They offer Australian investors chance to international markets and sectors at low cost. International ETFs on ASX  replicate overseas indices performances, but they are bough and sold in Australian dollars. Right now these international ETFs are available through iShares and Vangurd.

iShares

As one of th biggest ETF family out there, it holds more than 450 funds on almost 20 exchanges around the world, including ASX. iShares ETFs make up almost 50% of all ETFs on the market. Right now there are more than 20 of them offered on ASX. Read more on iShares.

Vanguard

Vanguard is another very big player, mostly known for their mutual funds, and with global presence in many countries including Australia (Sydney) they offer Australian investors international and domestic ETFs. Read more on Vanguard.

Russell Investments

One of the big players next to iShares and Vanguard they have offices now in more than 40 countries and they offer wide range of financial products and services. More on Russell Investments.

AII (Australian Index Investments)

AII offers domestic sector ETFs, with access to energy, resources and financials.

Beta Shares

Beta Shares offer range of equity indices which can be traded on ASX. The company is both owned and managed by Australians, and is also a BetaPro affiliate. Read more on BetaShares ETFs.
